About

A small site with one job: stop you overspending on gear.

Gadget Frugal started because a friend asked which [$200] earbuds to buy and the honest answer was neither, buy the [$60] pair. That answer is hard to find on sites paid by the click, so we built a place to put it.

Method

How a product gets picked

Nothing here is ranked by commission rate. The steps below are the same for every category.

01

Build the shortlist

We start from what people actually buy in a category, then cut anything with a known fault pattern in owner reviews. A typical shortlist is [10] to [15] products.

02

Buy the finalists

Usually [3] to [5] units, paid for at retail price. We do not accept review samples, and no brand sees a review before it is published.

03

Use them for [30] days

Daily use, not a lab afternoon. Battery, comfort, app quality and the small annoyances that only show up in week three all get written down as they happen.

04

Publish, then keep checking

Prices get re-checked monthly and picks get replaced when something better or cheaper turns up. Every guide shows the date of its last check at the top.

Affiliate disclosure

How this site makes money

Gadget Frugal is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.

When you buy something through a link on this site, we earn a commission from qualifying purchases. The price you pay is exactly the same. Commission rates differ between products, and we do not look at them when we decide what to recommend. If the best pick in a category is a product we earn nothing on, it still goes first.

We buy our own test units, we do not accept payment for reviews, and no brand can pay to appear on this site.
