Handsets we bought, carried daily and put against pricier rivals. Most people do not need to spend [$900] on a phone, and this page is only about the phone itself, not the charger, case or cable that come with it.
Best picks
Each pick beat at least two rivals at the same price or less. Where a cheaper phone won, we listed the cheaper phone.

Buying guide
A phone that dies at [6 pm] never feels fast. Screen-on time in normal use tells you more than any chip name, so that is the number in our table, measured at [50%] brightness.
A cheap phone with [2] years of updates costs more over its life than a mid-range one with [5]. Check the support window before you compare spec sheets.
Two phones with the same sensor can look completely different. Night shots separate them far more than megapixels do, so that is what we compare.
The phone itself is the thing worth comparing here. Cases, chargers and cables have their own picks on the Phone Accessories page, so we do not repeat them on this one.
